OPAL PLANNING NOTES

Kenya or Tanzania for your safari?

The camp location and your travel dates matter more than choosing a winner.

Start with the experience

Kenya and Tanzania both offer compelling wildlife trips. Kenya’s Mara and Tanzania’s Serengeti belong to a connected ecosystem, but access, accommodation and the shape of the holiday differ. Other parks and conservancies can change the experience again.

If the migration is the draw

Do not choose a country on the promise of a river crossing. Wildlife movements depend on natural conditions and sightings cannot be guaranteed. Start with your travel window, then consider the region and how long you can spend there.

Compare the itinerary in hours

Ask how much of each day is spent transferring, how many full days you have in camp, and whether drives are shared or private. A longer list of parks is not automatically a richer safari.

Compare what the quote includes

Check park or conservancy fees, internal flights, transfers, guiding, meals, drinks and optional activities such as ballooning. A lodge headline rate alone is not a useful trip comparison.

Our recommendation

For a first safari, protect time in camp and choose the right area for your dates. We can then compare Kenya and Tanzania using real itineraries rather than general country rankings.
